Online Discussion for Musical Mastery
Purpose
Two-to-One Course
One-to-One Course
Having instructed piano for over a decade, I have witnessed numerous young pianists reach a commendable level, ABRSM Grade 8 and beyond, only to abandon their musical journey upon entering university. It is disheartening to see their musical progress and potential cut short.
Music may not always lead to a career, yet it is essential for a well-rounded life.
This course benefits all intermediate and higher-grade pianists though it especially caters to those who may have set their musical development aside as they pursue other goals. It provides university-level experience within an exclusive framework of six online tutorials spanning two months. This course is multi-faceted, comprehensive, and enriching. It nurtures each student’s passion for piano playing, deepens his or her musical understanding, and fosters continuous artistic growth.
This format acknowledges the benefits of students learning together. It does so through tutorials of two students with the instructor. Each student can learn from the other as well as from the instructor in this dynamic learning environment. While each student makes his or her unique contribution to the course, the student pairs can share insights and questions, offer feedback to each other, sustain motivation in one another, and share inspiration.
To enhance these benefits, the instructor works with the students to develop a robust yet open, interactive environment where the students are encouraged to contribute for mutual success through making critical yet supportive contributions. In this way, this course mirrors many aspects of professional performance, where one’s abilities are open to critical, peer review while creating supportive friendships based on a shared interest in music.
Though broadly similar in content to the Two-to-one Course, this course option maximizes the benefits of personalized instruction tailored to the specific needs and goals of the student, and their learning style and pace. As such it is especially suited to pianists who seek to address specific technical challenges and is perhaps best suited to strong intermediate students seeking to make rapid progress in their technique and interpretive skills.
